Cultural Fusion is a one day regional Equity and Human Rights event which will provide a welcoming environment for stories, sharing and discovery:
- Meet with other BCGEU members of equity-seeking* groups and learn about breaking through barriers.
- Join artists in workshops for some hands-on exercises to express your unique voice.
- Discover how our cultural experiences can strengthen our union connections and activism.
An information table will be set up for resource materials and other cultural information for sharing. Participants are encouraged to bring any resource materials that reflect their culture or information from cultural or diverse organizations to which they belong.
Cultural Fusion will be held at Nikkei Place – a multi-use facility which houses the National Nikkei Heritage Centre and the Japanese Canadian National Museum – where participants will be immersed in Japanese Canadian culture including the lunch provided and a setting which includes a beautiful Japanese garden.
Leaves of absence will be provided for those participants who are regularly scheduled to work during the Equity and Human Rights event. For information about assistance (for example, childcare) to attend this union event, please ask Lorrie Burnell (see below) prior to registering your interest.
*Equity-seeking groups: Aboriginal, Persons with Disabilities, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered), and Visible Minority.
